YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The Provide Food and Water Sustainability Pillar ("Provide") is critical to the success of TNC's mission and requires collaborative processes and systems to operate effectively. The Provide team is responsible for driving change and scaling solutions in the agriculture, fisheries and water supply sector to create better outcomes for biodiversity, climate and people. The Provide Portfolio Management Officer (PMO) will accelerate alignment with TNC's Global Goals, support dynamic management of Provide-aligned strategies and goals, and enable impact at a scale that matters. This position will be part of the Provide Operating Council and will report to the Deputy Director for Provide.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Provide Food and Water Sustainably ("Provide") Portfolio Management Officer (PMO) will provide process leadership, carry out business analytics and support internal communications for Provide Leadership, strategy and program teams. The PMO plays a key role in coordinating across Provide, global and regional teams to ensure maximum integration between conservation management and other functions. They will seek solutions to sustain improved business and constituent outcomes, ensure quality improvement, and make recommendations to optimally align strategies, talent, processes, and tools to enhance our ability to deliver on TNC goals in a collaborative manner to the Deputy and Managing Director of Provide. They will work closely with the Provide Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) functional, strategy and program leads to ensure information on conservation implementation, budgets and fundraising progress is reported on regular basis through the Hub (and/or other) system. They will be responsible for written reports and presentations to all levels of staff regarding the outcome of analysis, recommendations, results of implementation, and the status of the ongoing conservation management. They are responsible for assisting with the further development, refinement, and maintenance of program materials and learning resources that support better conservation management. They will act as a resource to other staff and project managers to provide project management guidance, training, and expertise. They will take on special projects or initiatives as needed to support the Business Unit and support coordination of Provide-aligned strategies across the organization. They will maintain expert knowledge in the strategies, plans, communications, systems and resources managed by the team. They will keep up-to-date on market trends and best practices in program and conservation management in order to improve services.



RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
  • Support Provide Leadership to elevate and support initiatives that accelerate our impact, to create a more cohesive team environment, and enhance our collaboration internally.
  • Serve as senior project manager for special initiatives
  • Support portfolio management and strategy management processes, including trouble-shooting Hub and reporting issues, and devising tools and processes to get to meaningful discussion and decision making.
  • Recommend areas for increased investment and strategic refinement
  • Support/sponsor a Community of Practice within Provide aligned strategies for Program Managers, program coordinators
  • Lead on Milestone reporting, quality assurance and coordinate with Strat Comms to generate reports on progress
  • Maintain a conservation learning agenda, incorporating these into Team meetings (monthly) and retreats
  • Be a resource for methodologies, subject matter experts and service providers for strategy development, planning and innovation labs
  • Develop presentation materials, briefings and other internal communication tools for Managing Director in collaboration with Strategic Communications and Provide Operations team
  • Point of contact for various organizational processes, ad hoc, such as call for materials for executive reports, VIP events, strategic engagements
  • Support business process such as annual planning, budgeting, revenue projections, in coordination with DFO and Deputy for Provide
  • Work directly with strategy and project teams to strengthen strategic documents, work plans, multi-year budgeting, and other items. Train staff on use of Hub to enhance self-reporting.
  • Act as focal point for Provide Pillar's engagement with Chief Conservation Office and other global staff responsible for overseeing and supporting the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the Shared Conservation Agenda, supporting the Deputy for Provide
  • Assist coordination with policy and public funding teams, and with developing and managing large and/or cross-country public and private grants
  • Act independently and exercise independent judgment to identify and solve complex problems; work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by directives of superiors;
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information;
  • Work with staff from across the organization and provide support to organization leadership;
  • Travel on short notice, and work long and flexible hours as needed; and
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination;
  • Experience leading and implementing multiple projects;
  • Experience with business process improvement and management;
  • Experience with current and evolving technology and tools related to business process management;
  • Experience working with teams across an organization; and
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles, practices, and procedures of relevant field.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated;
  • 3 years of experience in process improvement;
  • 2 or more years of project management experience, ideally directing process initiatives in both short and long lifecycles;
  • Ability to work in partnership with all levels of staff in a collaborative or advisory role;
  • Advanced knowledge of current and evolving trends in business process, organizational change management, and process management tools;
  • Advanced proficiency in interpreting guidelines to achieve desired results;
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize new processes and effectively communicate benefits; and/or
  • Strong organization skills, time management, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to multi-task
